Can you guess who on this list of amazing authors is me? Bonus points if you don’t use Google. Leave your guesses below :)
I don’t want to reveal too much yet, but my short is called This Isn’t an Illusion, and it’s an urban fantasy/sci-fi-ish story. You usually don’t see many wizards and inventors in the same room at the same time, so I thought I’d put them together for this one.
Curious as to who’s publishing the anthology? No Bad Books Press, of course! They’re a small hybrid publisher for up-and-coming horror, fantasy, paranormal and sci-fi authors. Give their website a look and consider supporting some of these wonderful writers by buying their books.
I’m honored to be part of this cast of amazing writers who have been writing a lot longer than I have. Fun fact: I’m the youngest writer in this anthology, and the only one to not have a prior publication before this, either. Substack doesn’t count. This is a new and exciting world I’m going to be a part of soon, and I can’t wait for my work to get its debut.
Am I nervous? Of course I am! This is a big deal for me, so obviously I’m worried that all the things that can go wrong will go wrong. I’ve been waiting for this since submissions first opened back in June/July of 2022. It was a terrible time for me to write things in but I still did it and was good enough to get a spot in the book. I’m proud of myself for even being able to write something I could submit, let alone get my work published in something like this.
I’ve got a lot of thanks to give to Theresa Halvorsen. I’ve been interned at No Bad Books Press for about four-five months now - my very first job - learning about book marketing, reviewers, conventions, book clubs, podcasts, and all that lovely business stuff I’d have been doing anyways when I got around to publishing my own novels. She was also the one who let me know that No Bad Books was doing this anthology (I don’t pay any attention to their website. I just research and work with spreadsheets and I’m fine with that). Though, of course, Theresa and Sarah Faxon, the co-owner, both had to agree on the shorts that were going into this anthology. I don’t know how many submissions there were that I had to contend with, nor have I asked or even want to know. All I know is that they both liked my short, and that was the end of it. Though, really, if it wasn’t for Theresa then I’d not even be making this post today.
I just want to also thank all of you who have read The Great War thus far. It just goes to show that there’s interest out there for the work I am producing, and it gives me a bunch of motivation to keep going. Needless to say, if you like The Great War, you’ll enjoy This Isn’t an Illusion, too.
More updates soon! But until then…
I love reading comments. Don’t forget to leave something encouraging :)

I guess Miriyah Greer!
